Sandbags

Sandbags

In an effort to assist with flooding concerns, La Verne residents, schools, and businesses can obtain sand and sand bags free-of-charge behind Fire Station 1 and Fire Station 3. Shovels are available for your use. Fill bags 1/2 to 2/3 full and tie at the top so the bag will lay flat when put in place. A properly filled sandbag should weigh between 35-40 lbs. It is important to note that filling sandbags is a two-person job. Bring someone to assist you.

Please note that sandbags cannot be returned. Once sandbags are taken from the fire station, they are exposed to various environmental factors and potential contaminants during use. These factors may compromise the integrity of the sandbags and pose a risk to the health and safety of our community. Sandbags are a vital resource in times of emergencies, especially during events like heavy rainfall or floods. However, to ensure their effectiveness and prevent any unintended health hazards, it is essential that we adhere to a one-time use policy. Returning sandbags may introduce unknown elements that could compromise their structural integrity and render them less effective in future emergencies. If the used sandbags are not contaminated with foul water, chemicals, or petroleum products, rake the sand into soil, add it to planters, or use it for flowerbeds as a soil amendment.
