Overview

The City of La Verne maintains its own fire protection services, operated from three fire stations.

Fire Station 1 is located at 2061 Third Street. FS1 staffs a Fire Command Vehicle, one Type I Pumper (fire engine) and one Rescue Ambulance. An aerial ladder truck/Quint is staffed by members. FS 1 also houses one reserve Type I Pumper and several support vehicles.

Fire Station 2, located at 4785 Wheeler Avenue, just north of the 210 Freeway, staffs one Type I Pumper, one Rescue Ambulance, and one utility vehicle.

Fire Station 3 is located at 5100 Esperanza Drive in the northeast portion of the City. FS3 staffs one Type I Engine and one Type III Engine.

Total department staffing at the three fire stations includes 33 full time fire suppression employees consisting of three Battalion Chiefs, nine Fire Captains, nine Fire Engineers and twelve Firefighter/Paramedics working three alternating 48-hour shifts, as well twelve Ambulance Operators. Additionally, the Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, Fire Marshal, Community Risk Reduction Specialist and the Senior Management Analyst work a conventional workweek, and 3 part-time Administrative Officers provide ancillary support to the Department.

The City of La Verne encompasses an area covering nine square miles and serves a population of approximately 32,000. There are more than 150 miles of paved roads within the city including three state highways (approx. 18 miles). In addition, the city is also traversed east and west by two major railways, one Metrolink commuter line and one Santa Fe freight line. The Fire Department responds to approximately 3100 calls for service annually and has mutual aid agreements with Los Angeles County Fire Department and the United States Forest Service.
