Message from the Chief

Fire Chief: Christopher Nigg

As a highly professional organization, we serve the current and emerging needs of those who live, work, and visit our community. We are committed to responsibly safeguarding lives, property, and the environment through industry-leading emergency response and community engagement.

Our members place high value on integrity, accountability, teamwork and compassion, and professionalism. The men and women of the La Verne Fire Department are dedicated to providing superior service to the residents, visitors, and businesses in La Verne. Fire suppression is only one of our responsibilities. Today’s fire service requires an “all-risk” approach to emergency management.

Our staff members continually train and prepare for fires, traumatic injuries/accidents, natural and man-made disasters, and emergency medical incidents to keep us ready to respond to the unexpected. Our duties include business fire safety inspections to prevent fires, and community education to improve knowledge of fire safe practices in the home. We maintain state of the art medical equipment and training that meets, and often exceeds, Los Angeles County and State of California requirements for paramedic response. We participate in regional and national multi-agency incident management teams that have responded to large wildfires, natural disasters, and terrorist events across the United States. These opportunities provide our members with the experience, skills, and abilities that improve our capabilities when responding to incidents in and around the city of La Verne.

Our vision is to be regionally recognized as a progressive, innovative, and dynamic organization which strives for excellence in all aspects of emergency response through collaboration with our community and surrounding agencies.
