🔥 Volunteer with La Verne Fire Department
Looking to serve your community, gain valuable skills, and be part of a dedicated team? The La Verne Fire Department offers two exceptional volunteer opportunities:
For Ages 15–20
The La Verne Fire Explorer Program is designed for young individuals interested in exploring a career in the fire service. Participants learn about accountability, responsibility, and community service.
Program Highlights:
- Eligibility: Ages 15–20 with a 2.0 GPA or higher
- Training: Hands-on experience in firefighting skills, including personal protective equipment, tool recognition, forcible entry, ropes and knots, salvage and overhaul, and introduction to ventilation
- Community Involvement: Participate in events like pancake breakfasts, fire department open houses, car wash fundraisers, the City of La Verne’s July 4th Firework Show, and La Verne’s Christmas morning event
- Application Process: When available, complete an interest application and email it to the Explorer Post Coordinator or deliver it to Fire Station 1 at 2061 Third Street, La Verne

🛡️ Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
For Ages 18 and Older
The La Verne CERT Program trains residents to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their communities. During major disasters, professional first responders may be overwhelmed or delayed. CERT teaches residents how to safely care for themselves, their families, and their neighbors until help arrives.
Program Highlights:
- Training: A multi-unit course taught by FEMA-certified and La Verne Fire Department instructors, covering:
- Disaster Preparedness
- Fire Suppression and Utility Controls
- Medical Triage and Assessment
- Light Search & Rescue
- CERT Organization
- Disaster Psychology
- Terrorism Response
- Post-Training Opportunities: Graduates can use the training for personal preparedness or choose to join the team. Team members assist with non-emergency projects and events in their community.
- Membership Levels: La Verne CERT offers 3 levels of team membership, each with its own set of requirements to achieve and maintain that level. Team members receive a CERT pack containing essential gear and a photo ID card.
