The City of La Verne maintains its own fire protection services, operated from three fire stations. Fire Station 1 is located at 2061 Third Street. FS1 staffs a Fire Command Vehicle, one Type I pumper (fire engine) and one Paramedic Ambulance. An aerial platform truck is cross-staffed on fire responses by members of the Paramedic Ambulance. FS 1 also houses one reserve ambulance and several support vehicles.
Fire Station 2, located at 4785 Wheeler Avenue, just north of the 210 Freeway, staffs one Type I pumper and houses one reserve Type III pumper and one utility vehicle.
Fire Station 3 is located at 5100 Esperanza Drive in the northeast portion of the City. FS3 staffs one Paramedic Ambulance and houses one reserve Type I pumper. FS3 is also staffed on a seasonal lease basis with U.S. Forest Service personnel on a Type III pumper. USFS response in the City of La Verne is limited to fires that are a mutual threat to the Angeles National Forest.
Total department staffing at the three fire stations includes 33 full time employees consisting of three Battalion Chiefs, six Fire Captains, nine Fire Engineers and fifteen Firefighter/Paramedics working three alternating 48-hour shifts. The Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Marshal and Administrative Secretary work a conventional workweek, and 24 Apprentice Firefighters and 30 Fire Explorers provide ancillary support to the Department.
