    Fraud Alert !

Recent reports of unscrupulous business practices have been brought to the attention of the La Verne Fire Department. Several businesses in La Verne have been victimized by individuals claiming to have been sent by the "Fire Marshal" or the "Fire Department" to conduct unsolicited inspections regarding fire protection systems and areas related to fire safety.
We want to make business owners aware that the La Verne Fire Department does not hire outside companies to conduct business inspections. Inspections are conducted by La Verne Fire Department personnel wearing uniforms bearing La Verne Fire Department badges, and who carry City of La Verne identification cards. They will always arrive in a city-owned car or fire apparatus. Our personnel will never ask for payment of any kind, and will willingly present official identification when requested.
Fraudulent inspectors may dress in dark blue pants and t-shirts that look like the ones firefighters wear. They are very insistent on conducting their inspections immediately. They will ask you to sign an "inspection form", but will not usually leave a copy. You will later receive an invoice in the mail bearing your signature that has been cut and pasted into the document.
If you have reason to believe that an inspector is not a La Verne Fire Department employee or if the inspector tells you that he was sent by the "Fire Marshal" or the "Fire Department" and insists on conducting an inspection, please call the La Verne Police Department immediately at 909-596-1913. A description of the persons and/or vehicles involved would be helpful. If you believe that you have previously victimized, contact the police department and file a report. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to call us at 909-596-5991.
