The City of La Verne Fire Department has committed to a level of excellence in fire prevention, suppression, rescue, patient care and customer service. In an attempt to continue this commitment, the Fire Department has identified a formidable challenge to its ability to maintain this level of service. In the year 2002, the State will complete the 210 freeway, which will effectively cut the City of La Verne in half. This will increase the response times of both stations to the freeway, as well as to incidents at opposite ends of the city. While only two miles of the freeway will actually travel through the city, mutual aid agreements with the surrounding fire departments will cause a reciprocal overlap. This overlap will add one additional mile. However, this equates to six total miles; three eastbound and three westbound. Our goal is to address this problem and maintain our level of service for the rest of the city. Update - December 2004 The freeway has been open for some time and we seem to be meeting our challenge. As predicted, we will have 100 additional calls a year which we are handling with our 2 paramedic units, 2 paramedic engines and mutual aid agreements with Los Angeles Fire Department.
